The Baby List: Super Essentials

As parents, first, second or more, we want to give our child the world, but all that we buy may or not be as useful to you as they seem when you’re buying them.

I’ve put together a list of super-essentials, the very useful, and the nice ones to have.

Following are the Super Essentials:

Clothing:

  • 6 Onesies (Size: 0-3 months, 3-6 months)
  • 6 Long-Sleeve Rompers, with or without feet inclusions is upto you (Size: 0-3 months, 3-6 months)
  • 3 Lowers/ PJ’s to go with the onesies (Size: 0-3 months, 3-6 months)
  • 4-6 Bibs
  • 6 Burp Washcloths
  • 6 Napkins
  • 4-6 Pairs of Socks
  • 4-6 Pairs of Mittens
  • 2-3 Caps

Baby Toiletries:

  • Baby Massage Oil
  • Baby Body Wash/ Soap
  • Baby Shampoo
  • Baby Lotion (If your baby’s skin is dry or is a winter baby, you may be required to use the additional moisture, also, some mothers may want to use a lotion instead of the massage oil)

Bottle Feeding:

  • Bottle Sterilizer
  • Bottle Brush
  • Liquid Detergent
  • 6 Bottles
  • 6 Nipples/ Teats Slow Flow
  • Formula milk

Breast Feeding:

  • Breast Pads
  • Nipple Cream
  • Feeding Bras
  • Feeding Cover, for discreet public feeding

Nappies/ Diapering:

  • 5-7 Cloth Nappies (If you intend on using diapers, it’s good to keep a few as option, if you want to use only cloth nappies, you may want to consider keeping more)
  • Diaper Rash Cream
  • Baby Wipes
  • Cotton Wool

Out-of-Home Safety:

  • Pram/ Stroller
  • Car Seat (Newborn size)

Nursery:

  • Cotbed (Something that’ll last you for at least 2-3 years)
  • Baby Monitor
  • 4-6 Muslin Swaddle Blankets (Heavier ones if your baby is a winter baby)
  • New Mattress (Never, Never, Never compromise with a second hand mattress, if you’re considering buying a second hand cot)
  • 3-4 Fitted Bedsheets
  • 2 Quickdry Bedsheets (To place between the mattress and the bedsheet)

Washing Essentials:

  • Baby formula Detergent (Liquid or Powder)
  • Baby formula Fabric Conditioner
